    Time Event
    4:04p
The Christmas season so far has been very good but I'm still feeling under the weather and distinctly non-bouncy. I've received two very attractive invitations for socialising and food this evening and have had to refuse them both :( Judging by yesterday I'll get through the day ok but will collapse around 7 or 8 pm and have to have my forehead fanned with a palm leaf.

On the plus side I've set up a wiki for my technical notes and it is the dog's bollocks. OK wikidot is a bit strange and totally doesn't work in IE, but it is adequate, free and only took me about 20 minutes to get set up to the point where I could hammer my notes in as I go along - awesome. For this purpose it beats the notebook hollow because I can add links and update it so easily.

I received lots of nice presents - including socks (yay! I can clear out all the holey ones!) and a copy of European Peasant Cookery which looks like a lovely browsing book. We also have an unfeasible amount of leftovers and the house still smells strongly of roast goose. We entertained [info]aperrott's family and cooked an experimental goose. Conclusion: expensive but good. I'm not sure the roasties in goose fat were any better than the ones done in mutton dripping, but since both are excellent I'm very happy with the large box of goose grease that remains. (chesty cough anybody? Come here...)

I'm trying out the 'sliding doors' technique for creating pretty tabs on a web page:

This is from "A List Apart":

    and seems very cool.

I've also implemented a max and min width which is a bit scary in IE: since it doesn't support the css commands directly, I've used javascript instead. I'm nervous because there seem to be a lot of ways this approach can crash. This version *currently* works on *my* (well Al's) machine. If anybody would like to try it in any flavour of IE on their machine and report any problems, I'd be very grateful. Things which may break it include opening the doc in a small IE window (so that it's already below the minimum size).
